Bartier Bros. Michael

Michael Bartier

Co-Founder and Winemaker

Michael Bartier also grew up in the Okanagan Valley. After earning a degree from the University of Victoria and working in wine sales on Vancouver Island, he returned home with his wife Jodi.

A casual position in a winery cellar became the foundation of his career.

Through hands-on experience, university extension programs, and further study at Washington State University and the University of California, Davis, Michael built his path into winemaking. Early recognition followed. He earned two Canadian White Wine of the Year titles within three years and later received multiple Lieutenant Governor’s Awards for his red wines.

Michael held winemaking roles at respected Okanagan wineries before co-founding Bartier Bros. His philosophy remains consistent:

  • Plant the right grapes on the right site.
  • Farm with long-term intention, thinking in generations rather than seasons.
  • Allow the vineyard to speak clearly in the glass.
  • Make Okanagan wine, not imitations of Napa, Bordeaux, or Burgundy.
  • His work reflects precision, restraint, and respect for the fruit.
  • Michael and Jodi are parents to an energetic son, and as a family they spend their time running, skiing, and staying active outdoors.

Don Bartier

Co-Founder

Don Bartier grew up in the Okanagan Valley before moving to Calgary to pursue his accounting designation. His professional career in the oil and gas industry began in 1978, where he held roles in accounting, management, and education. Over the years, he worked on complex projects that demanded discipline, long-term thinking, and careful stewardship of resources.

Wine, however, remained a constant interest.

With his wife Sheila and her family, Don planted grapes on Sheila’s family property in Summerland. That vineyard became the first of the Bartier Bros. estate lands. The project marked a shift from managing resources underground to cultivating something living above it.

Don brings structure, financial oversight, and long-term strategy to the winery. His experience has helped shape Bartier Bros. into a sustainable, thoughtfully run business rooted in the Valley he has always considered home.

Hospitality Team

In the truest sense of the word “Team” this group is all rowing in the same direction. They have incredibly varied life experiences, yet they finish each other’s sentences. They support each other, and they present what we think is the most genuine, non-pretentious, and welcoming experience this side of anywhere.
